Hi All,
We’ll never forget the conversation we had with Ali’s NICU doctor at St. Peter’s Hospital. The doctor said, “Ali’s our smallest and sickest 24-week baby. There’s a 20% chance she’ll pull through all of this.” That was the moment we both felt alone with no one to turn to. Everyday for five months we were at Ali’s bedside, bathing her, feeding her, burping her, changing her, singing, reading, laughing, praying and hoping that she’ll make it and finally come home.
We can’t explain how this all felt or how we got through it ourselves. But, joining Ali’s nurses in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica March for Babies in 2005 helped us better understand and cope with our situation. We weren’t alone anymore. We became part of a larger family. There were so many babies and families that had similar experiences and struggles. While Ali’s committed doctors and nurses worked endless shifts to keep her alive, being involved with a positive community and a greater cause kept our spirit and hope alive too.
On Sunday, April 25, 2010, we do it all again at the March for Babies 2010 Fundraiser & Walk. We’ll walk again to give thanks to those who dedicated their lives to helping save premature babies. We’ll walk again to give thanks to people who have helped us and especially Ali. We hope you’ll be inspired this year to donate or get involved too.
